FAQS

How can I find out my type?

There are many informal sources that can assist a person in determining their type. Most books that deal with type, for example, will have an introductory chapter that explains the concepts around the preferences which together make up an individual's type 'code'. However, due to the margin for error and the potential implications for individuals who use type information in making life decisions, OAAPT (in accordance with the guidelines established by the Association for Psychological Type - APT) promotes the ethical use of type by qualified professionals. These guidelines require, among other things, a face to face session with individuals in order to assist them in discovering their own type preferences.

Who is qualified to help me determine my type?

OAAPT does not endorse any specific individuals who may be able to help you determine your type. OAAPT recommends, however, that you find individuals who are qualified to use the instruments that they are using and who uphold the ethical standards of the Association for Psychological Type (APT). A list of qualified practitioners can be found on our Facilitators page.

How do I become qualified to use type and temperament related instruments?

A number of organizations offer qualifying courses. Two sources in Canada are Career/LifeSkills Resources and Psychometrics Canada. By contacting them (or by following the links provided in this website) you will be able to find information on courses that are offered in your area of the country.
